Emphasizing on the scientific modernization of the police force, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Tuesday that it is the need of the hour to facilitate people to solve their problems at home through online medium.
Launching a chat bot (95177-95178) to report disappearance and exploitation of women and children and inaugurating a workshop on rights of women and children at the Indian School of Business (ISB) here, the Chief Minister Said that Punjab Police is proud. A legacy of countless sacrifices in the service of the country. He said that the Punjab Police has always protected the interests of the country and its people while performing its main duty to maintain law and order. Bhagwant Mann said that the challenges for the police force have increased manifold in the changing circumstances, for which comprehensive reforms in functioning have become the need of the hour.
The Chief Minister said that apart from keeping a strict eye on law and order, the police force also needs to focus on community policing. He said that many guiding initiatives have been taken at present and more such initiatives need to be taken to provide convenience to the people. Bhagwant Mann said that today is the age of science and technology. Therefore, much attention needs to be paid to solving people’s problems online at home.
The Chief Minister said that the entire judicial system needs to be reformed and the police system is the center, which needs immediate reforms. He said that the aim of our police reforms will be to change the moral values, culture, policies and ethics of the police organization, so that the police can perform their duties according to democratic moral values, human rights and law. Bhagwant Mann said one of its aims is to enable the police to deal with other parts of the security sector, including management and monitoring responsibilities.
Citing the example of Sangrur parliamentary constituency, the Chief Minister said that the state government has installed modern CCTV cameras there to keep an eye on every nook and cranny of the district. Cameras have started to be installed. He announced that it will now be implemented across the state, so as to reduce the workload on the police and effectively monitor the law and order situation. Bhagwant Mann installed CCTV. Describing the cameras as the third eye of the police, he said that immediate action will be taken to deal with any untoward incident with them.
The Chief Minister appreciated the initiatives taken by the police force to modernize the department. He expressed hope that human trafficking is becoming a serious threat not only to the police but to the entire society. Bhagwant Mann said that this menace needs to be dealt with strictly, for which this external initiative by the police called chat bot is a welcome step.
Emphasizing the need to strengthen the consultation system at the village or household level to reduce the workload of the police, the Chief Minister said that this would strengthen the social fabric of the state. Mutual love will also increase among people. Bhagwant Mann said that this would help in eliminating various causes of social stigma and pave the way for creating a society with equal opportunities for all. Describing the chat bot as a new initiative to improve the police system, he said that a developing country like India needs WhatsApp chat bot and other online methods to solve people’s problems quickly.
Calling on women to come forward in all fields, the Chief Minister said that in this regard, the state government has taken an unprecedented step by appointing seven women as Deputy Commissioners and five as SSPs. appointed He said that we are proud that these officers are rendering exemplary service to the state and its people. Bhagwant Mann said these officials are motivating more women to come forward and become breadwinners for their families, which will automatically solve social evils like dowry and infanticide and pave the way for women empowerment.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has already established 10 women police stations in Punjab to solve the problems faced by women. He said that these police stations are doing good work to provide justice to women. Bhagwant Mann said that the state government is considering setting up more such police stations across Punjab.
While reciting his poem ‘Nah Mein Janam Pree Marai, Na Jamban Da Dard Jhalya’, the Chief Minister advocated giving equal opportunities to women in all fields. He said that girls have surpassed boys in every field and if girls are given opportunities, they can raise flags of success in every field. Bhagwant Mann said that the youth are the backbone of the society and no stone will be left unturned to provide them with world-class education opportunities so that they can become an integral part of the socio-economic development of the country.
Earlier, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the department is committed to save not only children but also childhood. He said that various programs are being run for the welfare of women and children and ‘Vidya Prakash, the start of back to school’ is one of them, which is gradually becoming a symbol of success.
On this occasion DGP Gaurav Yadav briefed on the police procedure and assured that a comfortable environment would be created for the police personnel. ADGP Gurpreet Kaur Deo warmly welcomed all the prominent personalities present at the function.
