
5 Months Report Card of Ludhiana Police, 1846 Complaints Resolved

Ludhiana:
Amid criticism over rising cases of snatching and dacoity, police in Punjab’s Ludhiana district claimed that they have arrested 373 accused in 176 cases in the last five months. According to the police, from November 1, 2022 to March 26, about 925 snatched mobile phones and 138 stolen vehicles have been recovered from the accused arrested on charges of robbery and snatching. However, 51 cases are still pending.
In a period of five months, the police have registered 227 cases of snatching. A total of Rs 1.63 crore stolen property has been recovered from the accused. According to the police, a total of 1828 complaints of gender-related crimes, especially crimes against women, have been received in the last five months. Around 628 complaints were already pending with the police, which were received before November 1, 2022. Police claimed to have resolved 1846 complaints, while 610 complaints are still pending.
Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that the police is also serious about the increasing cases of online fraud. The police has recently strengthened the cyber crime wing with manpower and equipment. He said that the police have solved 2721 complaints related to cyber crime in the last five months and recovered Rs 54.95 lakh. From November 1, 2022 till now, the police had received 3579 new complaints of cybercrime, while 1655 complaints were already pending with the department. There are 2513 complaints pending with the wing as on 26 March.
Apart from this, he said that the police have arrested 372 accused in 282 cases of drug peddling in the last five months. Police recovered 24 kg of opium, 400 kg of poppy seeds, 197 grams of charas, 25 grams of cocaine, 9.8 kg of heroin, 25 grams of ice drug, 7 grams of LSD and MDMA and 26923 intoxicating pills from them. Police have also attached assets worth Rs 1.63 crore of three drug peddlers along with cases of drug smuggling.
